Course Information
Matrix algebra is one of the main building blocks of modern applied mathematics. This course is a continuation of stage 2 linear algebra, and teaches both theoretical and computational matrix skills, along with applications.
Potential applications of the material in this course include data fitting, non-linear optimization, least squares, and image processing.
Learning outcomes
This course will:
• Cover linear progamming, applications, and solution via the revised simplex method
• Look at orthogonal decomposition of linear systems
• Introduce positive definite and other special matrices
• Look at strictly convex quadratic programming and its applications
