Allan Wilson Centre

About the centre

As part of the New Zealand Government's Centres of Research Excellence iniatitive, a centre in molecular ecology and evolution has been established. The "Allan Wilson Centre for Molecular Ecology and Evolution" brings together senior researchers from five universities throughout the country. Massey University, the host organisation, will be joined by researchers from the University of Auckland, Victoria University of Wellington, as well as University of Canterbury and University of Otago.

The "Allan Wilson Centre" comprises world class ecologists, evolutionary biologists and mathematicians who will work together to unlock the secrets of our plants, animals, and microbes. How did they get here? How fast does evolution happen? What are the underlying processes that explain the evolution of our biota? How might these processes affect us in the future?
