Video-conferencing Information
Overview
The Biomathematics Research Centre has acquired a LifeSize Room high definition video-conferencing system - capable of high quality video conferencing with up to 1280 x 720 at 30 frames per second video.
The system is a standards-based point-to-point and multi-point communication system that supports 4-way video and/or voice calling. It should be compatible with systems produced by Tandberg and Polycom as it supports numerous protocols (e.g. H.263, H.263+, H.264, H.235, H.239, H.323, etc).
Connecting with us
Our IP address is 132.181.20.84. Connecting to us should be as simple as initiating a connection to our IP address from a compliant system.
Please email Mike Steel to arrange a meeting time. Our unit is list in the KAREN AVCC website's Endpoint Directory (avcc.karen.net.nz).
Connecting with a PC
It should be possible to connect to us from a PC or laptop using a webcam and H.323 client software. Mirial Softphone is proprietary H.323 client that supports high definition (720p).
Alternatively, we have tested our system with Microsoft Netmeeting which is included with Windows XP (C:\Program Files\NetMeeting\conf.exe). Unfortunately, Netmeeting is not included with Windows Vista. Netmeeting doesn't support high definition video, so quality is reduced. Other H.323 clients such as Ekiga for Linux, and XMeeting/ohphoneX for Mac OSX, should also work but we have not tested these. To our knowledge it is not possible to connect to us using Skype.
