Research Medal recipient
A big congratulations goes out to 2011 University of Canterbury Research Medal recipient Professor Douglas Bridges of Mathematics and Statistics. Professor Bridges will be presented with his medal at the afternoon graduation ceremony on 14 December.
Computer Vision PhD scholarships for a robot pruning project
Applications are invited for two PhD scholarships at the University of Canterbury in the field of Computer Vision. Covers full fees (for domestic or international students) and a stipend of NZ$30,000 per annum. Applications close December 2011.

Double congratulations to Rachael Tappenden and Shannon Ezzat who won awards
for the Best Applied Mathematics Talk and Best Pure Mathematics Talk respectively at the recent NZ Mathematics and Statistics Postgraduate Conference.
Following this Shannon went on to win the Aitken prize at the New Zealand Mathematics Colloquium and Rachael took the Aitken runner-up prize.

Daily help sessions for 100-level mathematics
In semester 1 we are holding daily help sessions for any students taking any of the following 100-level mathematics courses, MATH101, MATH108 or MATH109. These will be held every day in room 442 (Erskine building) from 1pm to 3pm.
Daily help sessions for calculus, differential equations and linear algebra
In semester 1 we are holding daily help sessions for all students taking an advanced course (200-level or above) in calculus, differential equations or linear algebra. These will be held every day in room 415 (Erskine building) from 12-2.

400-level Mathematics and Statistics Meeting
For all students enrolling in a 400-level mathematics or statistics paper in 2007, there is an important information and organizational meeting in the first week of term–26 February, Erskine 442, 10:00am. Part of the reason for the meeting is to recognize, and thus avoid, possible lecture clashes in making-up the 400-level lecture timetable.
Science Prestige Lecture: Music of the Primes
This is a Mathematics public lecture presented by Professor Marcus Du Sautoy, Oxford University, UK. He is a world renowned Mathematics researcher and communicator. Thurs 15 February, 5.30pm, C2 lecture theatre. All welcome.
