The 9th annual New Zealand meeting on the interface of mathematics and biology in the study of phylogeny, genome analysis and molecular evolution will be held at New Zealand's premier beach resort of Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula. It will be summer in New Zealand, so expect temperatures in the mid-20s to 30s Celsius. There's heaps to do, lots of water sports, hiking, with some pretty good wineries and restaurants around. More information on the Coromandel website.
The meeting will be held at the Aotearoa Lodge which is about 1km from town. We will arrange transport from town to the lodge every morning for the days of the conference.
The programme is yet to be finalised. The evening on Saturday, 12 February, has been set aside for reception, registrations and informal discussion. The first talk will begin at 9:00am on Sunday, 13th February. The last talk will be at midday on Thursday, 17th February. Tuesday has been set aside for excursions.
The registration fee is requested from all particpants and partners. The fee covers the cost of morning and afternoon teas, lunch, a BBQ and wine and cheese evening.
The Aotearoa Lodge can accomodation 20 people with its 10 Studio rooms with twin beds and private facilities. The rate for the Standard Studio is NZ$110 per night. This includes GST and a continental breakfast. Superior Studio rooms are NZ$125 per night. We understand that the Superior Studios have a larger toilet/bathroom and access to outside deck. Rooms are booked on a first-come-first-serve basis, so you will need to book your accomodation very early.
Other accommodation information can be found at the Whitianga/Mercury Bay accommodation website. Remember, this is peak season, so please book quickly. Rates for motels will be relatively high, unfortunately, but backpacker lodges and campgrounds offer cheaper accommodation.
