The 12th annual New Zealand meeting on the interface of mathematics and biology in the study of phylogeny, genome analysis and molecular evolution will be held at New Zealand's premier beach resort of Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula. It will be summer in New Zealand, so expect temperatures in the mid-20s to 30s Celsius. There's heaps to do, lots of water sports, hiking, with some pretty good wineries and restaurants around. More information on the Coromandel website.
The meeting will be held at the Aotearoa Lodge which is about 1km from town. We will arrange transport from town to the lodge every morning for the days of the conference.
The program (updated 05-02-08) can be downloaded here (PDF, 112 KB). The evening on Sunday, 10th February, has been set aside for reception, registrations and informal discussion. The first talk will begin at 9:00am on Monday, 11th February. The last talk will be at midday on Friday, 15th February. Wednesday has been set aside for excursions.
The registration fee is requested from all particpants and partners. The fee covers the cost of lunches, morning and afternoon teas, and a packed lunch and BBQ on Wednesday evening.
The Aotearoa Lodge can accommodate upto 22 people with its 11 twin/single Studio rooms (6x Standard Studio, 5x Superior Studio) with twin beds and private facilities. The rate for the Standard Studio is NZ$115 per night. Superior Studio rooms are NZ$130 per night. Both include GST and a continental breakfast. We understand that the Superior Studios have a larger toilet/bathroom and access to outside deck.
Self Catering units:
There are 2 self catering units - one of which sleeps 3 people and cost NZ$140.00 per night. The other sleeps 4 people and costs NZ$165.00 per night. Continental breakfast is available to self catering unit guests for NZ$10.00 per person.
Delegates should contact Rennie Leach at Aotearoa Lodge directly for accommodation which will be on a "first in, first served" basis.
Other accommodation information can be found at the Whitianga/Mercury Bay accommodation website. Remember, this is peak season, so please book quickly. Rates for motels will be relatively high, unfortunately, but backpacker lodges and campgrounds offer cheaper accommodation.
