Overview:

cafeThe 15th annual New Zealand meeting on the interface of mathematics and biology in the study of phylogeny, genome analysis and molecular evolution will be held at Leigh. It will be summer in New Zealand, so expect temperatures in the mid-20s to 30s Celsius. There's heaps to do, including diving and fishing. More information on the Leigh By The Sea website.

The meeting will be held at the The Leigh Sawmill Café.

Programme:

beachThe evening on Sunday, 6th February, has been set aside for reception, registrations and informal discussion. The first talk will begin at 9:00am on Monday, 7th February. The last talk will be at midday on Friday, 11th February. Wednesday has been set aside for excursions.

Registration fee:

Students: $200
Non-students: $300
Cancellations after 1/1/11 will incur a $50 processing fee.

The registration fee is requested from all participants and partners. The fee covers the cost of lunches plus morning and afternoon teas. Also included is a diner at the Sawmill Cafe on Thursday night.


Getting there:

From Auckland to Leigh: [Google map]

A mini-bus will be available to transport 8 persons from Auckland university (city centre) to the conference site on Sunday (the 6th of Feb). If you would like to book a seat please send an email to Stephane.


Accommodation:

1). Bedrooms are available on the site conference (see http://www.sawmillcafe.co.nz/accommodation.html). For booking, please send an email to Susan at the following address: info@sawmillcafe.co.nz. Don't forget to mention that you will be attending the NZ phylogenetics conference.

2). 16 beds are available in bunkrooms at the Leigh Marine Lab, about 3km away from the conference site. The price is NZ$25/bed/night/head. Booking can be made through the registration page (see above).

Please note that a mini-bus will be available to transport 8 persons max from the Marine Lab to the conference site every day.

3). Other accommodation information can be found at the Leigh By The Sea website.

4). Camping and backpacker accommodation is available at Goat Island Camping and Accommodation.

Things to do

Leigh provides various activities like lying on the beach, diving or using the glass bottom boat if you don't feel like diving yourself. More info: http://www.discovergoatisland.co.nz

About 30 minutes outside of Leigh is the Brick Bay Sculpture Trail which combines a nice walk in New Zealand nature with exhibitions of sculptures and wine tasting. More info: http://www.brickbaysculpture.co.nz

About one hour away lies Mangawhai Heads which provides a nice range of hikes. More info: http://www.mangawhai.co.nz

Scuba diving one can either stay in Leigh and explore Goat Island or drive for two hours and visit Tutukaka or go for three hours and explore the wreckage that once was the Rainbow warrior in the Bay of Islands. More info: http://www.divenz.com
