The 18th annual New Zealand meeting on the interface of mathematics and biology in the study of phylogeny, genome analysis and molecular evolution will be held on Waiheke Island. It will be summer in New Zealand, so expect temperatures in the mid-20s to 30s Celsius. There's heaps to do, including diving and fishing. More information on the Waiheke Island website.

The meeting will be held at The Venue Waiheke (formerly The Dunes).

Registrations are now closed. The fees for students and non-students are NZ$200 and NZ$300, respectively. Each participant will have the opportunity to give a short (5min), a normal (15min) or no talk.

NOTE: Registrations closed on 12 December 2013. Payment for registration must be done online at the time of registering. Payment will not be accepted at the conference venue.

There are many options for accommodation on Waiheke. We strongly recommend that you book early since February is a busy period for this tourist destination. Kina backpackers provides accommodation within walking distance from the conference venue. Also, the Bookabach web site lists holidays houses available for rent in New Zealand and bookings can be made online.

Getting there:

Please see the links below for the directions to the conference venue:

  1. From Auckland International Airport: http://goo.gl/maps/OBuEo
  2. From Auckland city centre: http://goo.gl/maps/UAkgr

Auckland International Airport to the ferry terminal:

The Airport Bus will take you from Auckland International Airport to the city centre ferry terminal, providing an easy commute between airport and conference site.

Ferry terminal to Waiheke Island:

The return ticket for the ferry between Auckland and Waiheke costs NZ$35-40 per adult. The trip itself is about 40 minutes long. The most popular route is the following (for timetable etc. see the link):

  1. From Auckland City Centre to Matiatia, Waiheke:

For our adventurous colleagues there are further options:

  1. Half Moon Bay to Kennedy Point, Waiheke:
  2. Auckland City or Coromandel City to Orapiu Bay, Waiheke:
Orapiu Bay has no bus connection and is about 15km away from the conference venue, so either pack a pair of sneakers or a bike for this trip.
